Songwriters Connection
La Dolce Vita
Publishing Co.
(ASCAP)
The road to success as a songwriter is a treacherous one, with
scores of opportunists waiting at every turn to take advantage of aspiring
artists. The digital age of music has brought about an explosion of tools that
songwriters can use to their advantage. Yet it has also brought about an
explosion in the number of aspiring artists who have access to the recording
process, making it even more difficult to get music noticed through scores of
material in the marketplace.
Signing away a percentage of your royalties to a music publisher (50% is the
standard) is a precarious venture. Having a large percentage of your song's
proceeds tied up with one company can limit your options when another interested
(and perhaps more reputable or well-connected) publisher shows an interest.
La Dolce Vita Publishing Co. offers another approach, with the best interests of the songwriter
in mind. With so much music being recorded, music industry professionals have
neither the time nor inclination to listen to all of the material that comes
their way from individual artists. La Dolce Vita accepts and screens music from
a limited number of aspiring songwriters. Our compilation CD's are then
distributed to artists, publishers, A&R contacts, and record companies who can
rest assured that these selections have been scrutinized and pared down to only
the finest selections.
La Dolce Vita is also compensated by receiving a percentage of
the performing rights of the song, though only a fraction of the percentage that
most publishers require. Better yet, artists can choose to pay a finder's fee
(similar to a staffing or personnel agency that connects employers with job
hunters) once an interested party is identified that releases the artist from
the terms of the original agreement (sort of a buyout clause). That way if a
lucrative deal comes along, you're not shackled by the terms of your original
agreement.
We also conduct periodic songwriting workshops to help aspiring artists discuss
music industry issues and network with other musicians. Artists helping artists
get noticed - We see it as a "Win-Win" situation.
